Abstract:

The design, construction, testing, and operation of a two-dimensional LDV system for use in a towing tank is described. The primary design considerations were underwater application, minimal disturbance at the measuring location, reduced vibration effects when towed, and capability of near-wall measurements. The operation of the system is demonstrated in making velocity measurements in the turbulent boundary layer of a surface-piercing flat plate.
