Abstract:

Many leveed areas adjacent to San Francisco Bay are potentially subject to tidal flooding. In response to this concern, Congress authorized the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to conduct the San Francisco Bay Shoreline Study to investigate tidal flooding. This paper summarizes the hydrologic engineering techniques which were used by the San Francisco District to provide the data needed to establish where storm-damage-reduction projects were economically feasible.
