Torsion Rigid Gates and Their Hoisting Mechanisms

Abstract:

In Europe, installation of modern, steel, 'torsion-rigid', radial (tainter) gates and flaps, operated by one or more hydraulic hoists usually situated at the downstream side of the gate, or in the piers, has been common over the past 30 years. Such gates are made with strong, rigid, box-type bodies and use hoists with a working pressure in Europe of approx 3'500 PSI and above. Simultaneous operation of the hoists and twisting of the gate, or flap, is therefore not a problem.
