Abstract:

Development around Choctawhatchee Bay, and reduced productivity, loss of seagrass beds, and higher salinities, prompted the Northwest Florida Water Management District to conduct an investigation intended to provide a basic understanding of the hydrodynamic characteristics of the Bay system, and develop a management tool for use in ongoing and future planning activities. The scope of the investigation includes the collection of physical data on tides, river flows, tidal flows, salinities, and underwater currents; the calibration of a three-dimensional model of the Bay; and the application of the model to determine the hydrodynamic behavior of the system. Application of the model and study results are discussed.
