Abstract:

This paper proposes a method to calibrate a reliability based load and resistance factor design (LRFD) permit evaluation formulation that will account for the overloaded truck's configuration. In addition, it considers the number of permits allowed, the general truck traffic at a site (including the probability of multiple permit truck crossings). Such a procedure will provide a more rational permit policy in an attempt to account for the actual safety of the bridge under overloaded trucks.
