Abstract:

This volume on Bridges and Transmission Line Structures contains papers from ten sessions and one plenary session of the 1987 ASCE Structures Congress. Eight sessions cover bridges. A general session on various aspects of bridge design and safety is followed by separate sessions on steel bridges, concrete bridges, and long-span bridges. The plenary session on the dynamics of cable-stayed bridges is accompanied by separate sessions on the aerodynamics of bridges and the dynamic behavior of cable-stayed bridges. A separate session on timber bridges includes timber decks. The topics cover a broad range including LRFD bridge design, rehabilitation of bridges, design of bridge piers, wind-buffeting of bridges, wind-tunnel investigation of bridges, and ship collision criteria. Two sessions are concerned with transmission line structures, both loadings and design.
