by W. R. Ivarson, Harza Engineering Co, Chicago, IL, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Hydraulic Engineering

Abstract:

Siphons can be a cost effective alternative to more traditional means of conveying water to hydroelectric turbines. The City of Ann Arbor, Michigan selected a siphon as the most cost effective means of redeveloping the fourteen feet of head for hydroelectric power at their Superior Dam on the Huron River. Other alternatives considered included a cut and cover penstock through the earth dam fill and an integral intake powerhouse again through the earth dam fill.
