Abstract:

The papers in this book were presented at the ASCE National Conference on Hydraulic Engineering, August, 1987, Williamsburg, Va. The objective of this conference was to provide a forum for discussion and exchange of information on issues related to hydraulic engineering. Papers on hydraulic structures review their analysis, design, rehabilitation, and upgrading as well as scour and discharge estimates. Embankment dams and analysis and design of spillways are covered. The hydraulics of sewers and culverts, and energy and water hammer in closed conduits are also included. Rough flow in shallow channels, channel stability, unsteady open channel flow and river hydraulics are considered. A number of papers focus on coastal and estuarine systems and processes including remote sensing for tidal hydraulic analysis, hydraulics and sedimentation in bays and estuaries, and estuarine sediment transport. Studies on rehabilitation of water distribution systems, and management models and network models are presented. Other topics include computational hydraulics, scale models, mathematical models for groundwater analysis and transport processes in porours media flow, and analysis and modeling of water quality problems.
