Issues and Problems of Coastal Management in Italy

by Paolo Fabbri, Univ of Bologna, Bologna, Italy,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Coastal Zone '85

Abstract:

The paper aims to outline present situation and possible future developments especially concentrating on management of beaches and water fronts. Population density had been for many centuries tendencially lower along coasts, compared with inland areas, and this tendency was reversed only in the first half of this century. These data summarize the intensity of settlement processes along Italian coasts, and the range of conflicts and problems stemming from these.
