Abstract:

Coastal Zone '85 was a multidisciplinary conference for professionals, interested citizens, and decision-makers to exchange information and views. Coastal zone management and ocean resources issues were addressed in relation to use, protection, and development. Papers included in this publication discuss improved jurisdiction arrangements, conservation and design considerations, enforcement policies, investigtion and planning methods, data collection, and research efforts. The need for greater public understanding and involvement in ocean and freshwater issues is emphasized. Environmental aspects, natural coastal processes, and coastal and offshore structures and activities (e.g. offshore drilling, ocean dumping) are covered.
