Abstract:

TVA has conducted 70 audits of various TVA operations including construction projects and power plants since 1981. In general, TVA's experience with environmental audits has been very satisfactory and auditing has become an important element of facility environmental management. TVA facilities and operations are audited against legislation and regulation. TVA policy, organization procedures, specific permits, NEPA documents and commitments to regulators. The audit program serves as a tool for regular intra-agency communication on environmental problems needing resolution. TVA's auditing program is described with regard as to how audits are conducted and how the program has been received by one of TVA's operating organizations. (Edited author abstract. )
