Abstract:

This paper presents a finite volume algorithm for the vertically averaged integral form of the hydrodynamic governing equations on an unstructured grid system. The algorithm is applicable to a hybrid grid composed of mixture of triangular and quadrilateral cells. A quadrature formula is used in the, approximation of the integrals and the evaluation of various variables and an implicit scheme is used in solving the numerical system. Results from an application on Chesapeake Bay along with comparisons with analytic solutions for simplified problems are presented to demonstrate the success of the algorithm.
