Abstract:

Having achieved democracy and stabilized its economy, Argentina is working to improve its transport, telephone and power systems and to ease its housing shortage; the local construction industry is growing fast. Topics include urban redevelopment projects in Buenos Aires; the privatization of highway projects, telecommunications, and water, gas and electric services; and inflows of foreign investment. The author, a journalist in Buenos Aires, says that most privatized firms are either on the track to success or have already begun making sizeable profits; most of the privatization program is over, but numerous opportunities remain.
