by Alastair Duff, BAA, London, United Kingdom,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Aviation Crossroads: Challenges in a Changing World

Abstract:

The purpose of this Paper is to examine the applicability of rail links to major airports and the benefits they can bring. It will seek to identify the key success factors and the extent to which, in an increasingly environmentally - conscious world, a rail link can help an airport develop its capacity and improve customer service without placing too great a burden on the surrounding road network. This paper will concentrate on the European perspective, with particular attention being given to Heathrow Express, a ?300m project aimed at dramatically improving public transport links to the world's busiest international airport.
