Abstract:

In this paper an experimental investigation on the behavior of dowels embedded in concrete is described. The dowel strength under monotonic forces with two different boundary conditions is evaluated. Using the moire' technique, the strain field, induced by the pressure of a transversely loaded bar, is analyzed. It is shown that the maximum dowel resistance is about five time the uniaxial compressive strength of the concrete.
