Abstract:
A new, passive, dissipation device which utilizes Coulomb friction to reduce horizontal structural motions is adapted to an actual vertical vibration problem. An analysis by numerical methods indicates that readily attainable brake forces coupled with a small auxiliary mass significantly reduces floor vibrations.
