Abstract:

The large drilled shafts for the proposed Klamath Falls Bridge, which are to be founded in diatomaceous silts, were to be designed to withstand earthquake induced large cyclic loading. In view of the unknown nature of the mechanical properties of this material under lateral loading, pressuremeter tests were undertaken to determine the P/Y characteristics of the silts.
