Abstract:

This proceedings, Design and Performance of Deep Foundations: Piles and Piers in Soil and Soft Rock, consists of papers presented at five sessions of the 1993 ASCE Annual Conference and Exposition held in Dallas, Texas, October 24-28, 1993. It presents studies on the behavior of and advances in the design of deep foundations, including driven piles and drilled piers, in soil and soft rock, onshore and offshore. The papers are grouped in three sections. The first section emphasizes the use of in-situ tests directly in design, to improve the reliability and cost effectiveness of deep foundations for load transfer in soil. The next section presents full-scale field behavior of pile groups and installation of driven piles. The last section focuses specifically on the design and construction of drilled shaft foundations in hard soils and soft rock.
