McCormick Bridge Scour Evaluation?A Case Study of a Tidal Bridge

by Michael P. Maroney, Bromwell & Carrier (BCI) Inc, Lakeland, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Hydraulic Engineering

Abstract:

Although the Federal Highway Authority has implemented procedures for bridge scour analysis in their HEC-18 publication, they do not indicate a procedure for scour depth determination for tidal waterways. The first tidal bridge scour analysis performed in Florida was for the McCormick bridge in Jacksonville, and the experience in production of the analysis required research capabilities, knowledge of the mechanics and equations involved in the scour process, and good engineering judgement.
