Abstract:

New Jersey Department of Transportation has embarked on a program to evaluate all existing bridges over waterways to assess their vulnerability to failure by scour. The Stage I (Screening and Prioritization) was completed in 1992 for all State owned, toll agency and 60% of County bridges. This phase identifies and establishes a priority list of bridges which have experienced scour or may be susceptible to it, and are candidates to be investigated in detail in Stage II, (In-depth Bridge Scour Evaluation).
