Abstract:

Before the background of the emerging of advanced transport telecommunication and informatics several traffic information and control systems are under development with a bottom up approach. The politicians and their administrators are trying however to solve transport problems looking at traffic problems with a top down approach. The European R+D Programs DRIVE and PROMETHEUS are the background of a series of field trials on transport telematics in metropolitan areas. This paper reports on the process of integration of advanced telematics into the urban and regional transport policies for the Case of the Greater Munich Area.
