Abstract:

Using a probabilistic inverse method, an estimate is made of the groundwater flux through the unsaturated tuff matrix at drill hole USW H-1 in Yucca Mountain. The most likely flux is found to be between 0 and 0.01 mm/yr - virtually a hydrostatic condition. This result is consistent at all elevations where in-situ data are available, including the upper nonwelded strata. This study has implications for flow-model validation and future data collection.
