Abstract:
The proceedings of the fourth International Conference on High Level Radioactive Waste Management, held on April 26-30, 1993, Las Vegas, Nevada, provides information on the technical and societal impacts of the generation, storage, transportation, conditioning and disposal of spent fuels and high-level radioactive waste. The increased international participation enables both technical investigators and the general public to better understand the various activities of all the different organizations involved with these issues. These papers, covering such topics as validation and public acceptance, institutional impacts, transport modeling, waste package design, risk perception, decision making techniques, and human factors in component operations, provide the basis for informed decisions regarding the scientific and policy issues concerning the safe disposal of high-level radioactive wastes.
