Abstract:

Structural modifications imposed on the Apalachi-cola River for navigation, their environmental impacts and government actions to address these impacts are reviewed. Past structural modifications have had signi-ficant impacts. Efforts to refocus the issue from a con-flict between navigation and environmental interests to basin-wide management of water resources in the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint (ACF) basin is occurring because of an effort to reallocate water to Atlanta.
