Abstract:

Scatter of strength and toughness parameters as well as scale effect are often observed in brittle materials such as concrete. The recently developed Crack Diffusion Model is utilized. The model bridges concepts of the Weakest Link Theory and conventional Fracture Mechanics. Fractographic analysis is incorporated in the modeling of strength and fracture toughness of concrete. Directions of further development are outlined.
