Abstract:

Use of a flexible plate in minimization of soil reaction concentrations at the edge was analyzed. The analysis utilizes a solution for vertical vibrations of the circular flexible plate on the surface of an elastic layered half-space. The results indicate that soil reaction concentrations can be minimized in three ways: proper selection of the stiffness ratio of the plate, shape of the plate and position of loading.
