Abstract:

A simple procedure for free vibration analysis of asymmetric buildings is presented. This method assumes that each floor is a rigid diaphragm with three degrees of freedom (two lateral and one rotational) and can analyse buildings which are unsymmetrical in plan and/or elevation. A numerical example is presented and the natural frequencies and associated mode shapes compared to the eccentricity.
