Abstract:

This work is set within a framework of research on drought phenomena, causes and effects, and the methods to fight the harmful effects of droughts in the agricultural, municipal and industrial sectors. The methodology adopted studies the system to evaluate the relationship between low flow indices and hydrogeological catchment characteristics, particularly attention is put on the possibility to combine hydrogeological complexes, with the storage capacity of aquifers, and the values of low flow indices. The obtained results should make it possible to estimate the low flow index in ungauged sites from hydrogeological characteristics of the catchment, which are easily available from appropriate thematic cartography. Finally the BF index can be used to evaluate low flows in rivers and also to study optimization methodologies for water management.
