Abstract:

Leachate was collected from a municipal landfill which has been closed for about 15 years. The sample was collected (under a N2 atmosphere) only after observations of pH, specific conductance, turbidity, and D.O. suggested that the sample was representative of the in situ leachate. Ultrafiltration membranes were used to separate the bulk leachate into several size fractions. Preliminary results indicate that about 40% of the TOC and 50% of the total Fe are in the colloidal size fraction.
