Abstract:

The Venice Lagoon is undergoing a severe process of environmental decay, due to increasing pollution from urban, industrial and agricultural sources. A number of projects have been launched, and are currently under preparation. The major components of these projects are: the construction of a system of mobile gates to prevent high tides and the flooding of Venice; the transfer of oil traffic outside the lagoon area; the design of an integrated management system of the Venice Lagoon. The ultimate goal of these projects is to reestablish graduallhy the environmental equilibrium of the lagoon and to increase the control on the use of environmental resources.
