Abstract:

This proceedings for Major Development and Transportation Projects contains papers and discussion summaries from the specialty conference Major Development and Transportation Projects: Public-Private Partnerships held in Boston, Massachusetts, June 28-30, 1990. The purpose of the conference was to explore new and innovative ways in which the private sector and public transportation agencies can work together to further each other's interests. Papers include case studies on individual projects as well as papers which develop broader themes regarding trends and innovations observed in the U.S. and Europe with regard to financing, procuring and delivering major transportation and development projects. Special emphasis is placed on structuring deals to effectively harness the enterprise of the private sector while preserving for the public sector those tasks for which its talents are best suited or which cannot be reasonably delegated. The variety of projects examined range from tolled highway, bridge and tunnel links to new rail and people mover lines to individual transit station joint development projects.
