Abstract:

Tidal circulation and salinity transport in the James River and Hampton Roads estuarine system has been simulated using a three-dimensional curvilinear-grid hydrodynamic model, CH3D, developed by Y.P. Sheng. Results of a 29-day model simulation are compared with data collected by VIMS in terms of tidal constituents at selected locations, currents at James River bridge, longitudinal salinity distribution, and residual tidal circulation patterns.
