Abstract:

A limited number of step-by-step procedures have been developed to recursively evaluate the response moments of uncertain systems. In several of these procedures, the recursive evaluation depends on discrete enforcement of a Gaussian approximation to the displacement and velocity response random processes. In this paper, the error associated with such an approximation is isolated for a simple system using an analytic method which is not itself approximate in the manner of perturbation or Monte Carlo approaches.
