Abstract:

Probabilistic evaluation of single slender elastic elements, bored piles, in a multi-layered soil system without noticeable displacement of the soils are considered. The numerical analyses are performed using data from test shafts that were built at the new EPFL, Ecublens, Switzerland. Principal parameters of the analyses are considered as stochastic variables. The method regards the progressive mobilization of the shear resistance as a function of displacement at the shaft-soil interface along the shaft as well as the post failure behaviour (softening). Evaluation of the vertical and horizontal stresses and the shear resistance along the shaft are based on classical soil mechanics.
