Abstract:

A hydraulic demolition hammer mounted on a common backhoe or excavator carrier has gained world wide acceptance in the construction industry as a viable alternative to blasting. This paper briefly describes the history, operating principle, and rock breaking techniques for boom mounted hydraulic impact hammers. Case histories of rock excavation applications are detailed, with comparison to other methods.
