Bond and Dowel Action of a Main Bar in a RC Beam

Part of: Structural Design, Analysis and Testing

Abstract:

The bond and dowel action are analytically treated independently on each other in most cases. The bond behavior may be, however, much affected by the dowel action in structural members. In this study, the pull out force and the dowel shear force applied to model specimens simulating the longitudinal reinforcing bar in a reinforced concrete (RC) beam. The effects of the dowel action on the bond stress-slip relations were discussed and the analytical model was provisionally proposed. The test results were well followed by a simple analysis.
