Abstract:

This volume contains the papers presented in 21 sessions of the 1989 Structures Congress held in San Francisco. The papers cover a wide range of topics including types of construction materials, major types of structures, research, measurement, and methods of performance evaluation. Some of the issues discussed within these topics are cracked concrete deterioration; performance of masonry shear walls; dynamic response of buildings; probabilistic methods of validation; standards for design loads; pressure measuring for wind loads; and bridge research. The contributors of the papers bring a diversity of experiences to these papers since, in addition to the U.S. contributions, many are contributed by authors from the Pacific Rim countries.

Subject Headings: Wind loads | Dynamic loads | Wind pressure | Shear walls | Live loads | Construction methods | Construction materials
