Performance of Steel Sheet Pile Cellular Cofferdams

by Robert J. Smith, US Army Corps of Engineering, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Structural Design, Analysis and Testing

Abstract:

Steel sheet pile cells are often used as construction cofferdams for structures to be constructed in rivers. Examples of this type of construction include locks and dams, pumping stations, and hydropower projects. This paper will highlight the procedures used by the Corps of Engineers to insure continuing intergrity of steel sheet pile cellular construction cofferdams. Included will be a brief description of why the Corps adopted the present policy of designing cellular cofferdams and results that have been obtained on recent projects.
