Abstract:

Several macroscopic models based on the limit analysis have been proposed for obtaining the ultimate strength of reinforced concrete shear walls in Japan. When using these models, it is important to verify their fundamental assumptions. In this paper the truss mechanism of transverse reinforcement and the arch mechanism of concrete were separated from the analytical results of stresses by using Finite Element Method. This approach was applied to several examples and the remaining problems of the macroscopic models are pointed out.
