Abstract:

Macroscopic models utilized in a plastic analysis for predicting the ultimate strength of reinforced concrete members have been developed in Japan as well as in Europe. In the JCI committee, each member has shared computer programs by original authors to calculate the ultimate strength of RC shear walls and compared it with experimental results to verify the soundness of the macroscopic models. This paper describes some useful information obtained through such JCI activities. Its conclusion is that the results by analysis by macroscopic model correspond well with experimental results and they are more accurate than those of the popular empirical formulae used in Japan.
