Abstract:

This paper describes recent test results on the behavior of selected connections for seismic-resistant Eccentrically Braced Frames (EBFs). These tests provided data on the performance of several brace-to-link and link-to-column connection details under severe cyclic loads. The investigation of link-to-column connections focused on the special problems associated with long, flexural yielding links. Tests showed that link-to-column connection details typically used for short, shear yielding links are unreliable when used for flexural yielding links. These connections are prone to premature failure by fracture of the link flange at the flange-to-column weld.
