Abstract:

Cable segments are important components in a wide variety of marine operations. Their nonlinearities are primarily geometric as characterized by large displacements and load-dependent equilibrium shapes. In this study an iterative method is employed to simulate the vibrational behavior of extensible cables under hydrodynamic loading. Curvature and current effects on natural vibrations are considered.
