Abstract:

A review of the effectiveness of roadway safety measures to reduce traffic accidents is given. This paper attempts to discuss in detail the current status of safety-related knowledge and safety-related implementation activities. It discusses: What is known and not known concerning relationships between geometric and non-geometric variables and safety and the effectiveness of specific treatments; and what treatments have and have not been implemented of those that have been shown to be beneficial by research.
