Abstract:

The problem of estimating the amount of leachate generated in a landfill site is of significance in the assessment of potential environmental impacts. Although there are a variety of regulations and guidelines controlling landfill design criteria which typically specify such design details as a minimum liner thickness, maximum permeability, etc., they do not directly predict the rate or total volume of water movement through the landfill. This paper overviews some of the methods that are currently available for estimating the leachate in the landfill.
