Abstract:

A number of studies have already been presented on the refurbishment and modernization of hydro facilities and also the design and upgrading of the generators. This paper will partly deal with the results in a newly finished study by an expert group of the Swedish Power Association (VAST), in cooperation with the Swedish State Power Board. The paper deals with what is wrong with the generators, the design, operation, the maintenance and what can be done to improve the reliability.
