Part of: Managing Urban Transportation as a Business

Abstract:

Connecticut Limousine operates scheduled limousine service between various Connecticut communities and the three New York area airports. It has achieved a nearly 50 percent market share. It is expanding throughout the region. Its management has a target of 60 percent market share based on product enhancements. With changes at the airports by the Port Authority (the airport operator) to encourage public transport, this can be increased to 75 percent. However, the Port Authority, which favors public transport, has unveiled a 5 billion program to cope with a 50 percent increase in passenger enplanements by 2000. This program is expected to unintentionally devastate public transport, especially at Kennedy Airport.
