The 1987 ASCE Dioxin and Resource Recovery Symposium was held at the New York Hilton Hotel, New York on February 10, 1987. The conference served as an opportunity to assess the issue of dioxin emissions, their risk to human health, and their effect on resource recovery solid waste disposal systems and technologies. This book contains seven of the papers delivered at the symposium. The following topics are covered: (1) EPA's municipal waste combustion activities; (2) resource recovery and dioxins in New York State; (3) dioxin and human health; (4) risk assessment and public policy; (5) the Swedish dioxin moratorium; (6) the national incinerator testing and evaluation program; and (7) the dioxin situation in West Germany. The symposium was sponsored by the ASCE Environmental and Engineering Division's Resource and Energy Recovery Committee in association with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, NY Department of Environmental Conservation and the ASME Solid Waste Processing Division and Dioxin Committee.
