Abstract:

This paper presents the results of a limited study to determine if the provisions of Section D. 3. 2. 1 'Anchorage Bracing for Roof Systems Under Load with Top Flange Connected to Sheathing' of the 1986 AISI 'Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members' also apply to Z-purlin supported standing seam roof systems. System restraint, diaphragm and full-scale flexural tests were conducted. Anchorage forces for the three brace configurations covered in the AISI specification were measured and compared to predictions from the original analytical model which was used to develop the AISI specification provisions. Results show that for the two purlin line assemblies tested, the current provisions for thru-fastened Z-purlin supported roof systems are applicable to Z-purlin supported standing seam roof systems.
