Abstract:

Monitoring results are presented for an experimental watershed located on a South Carolina barrier island. Rainfall, streamflow and well data indicate streamflow occurs due to interaction between the surficial aquifer and surface streams, and due to surface runoff during periods of high intensity rainfall. The well data indicate a tidal influence up to 2000 ft (610 m) inland from the tidal marsh. A model is proposed for the surficial aquifer-streamflow interaction.
