Abstract:

The Surface Water Hydrology Committee, ASCE Hydraulics Division, sponsored this first Symposium on Engineering Hydrology. The Symposium was held jointly with the ASCE National Conference on Hydraulic Engineering at the Hilton Conference Center in Williamsburg, Virginia, August 3-7, 1987. One hundred and twenty nine papers are contained in these Proceedings. They cover a broad range of hydrologic engineering endeavors, from traditional flood and water supply hydrology, to the many areas which rely on hydrologic analyses. The main session titles are: water quality, reservoir systems, dam safety, sedimentation/erosion, flood forecasting, urban hydrology, groundwater quantity and quality, flood frequency, drought, design storms, microcomputer applications, surface/groundwater systems, and hydrologic modeling and calibration. The objective of the Symposium is to enhance communication of the practical state-of-the-art of engineering hydrology among practicing professionals. The emphasis is on how well the current technology works, rather than new untested theories.

Subject Headings: Hydrology | Hydrologic engineering | Hydraulic engineering | Water quality | Groundwater quality | Flood frequency | Water shortage
